The 5th Annual School for Young Scientists was held at the National Center for Space Vehicles Control and Testing (Yevpatoria, Crimea, Ukraine).

Schedule — 2 days

Objectives: The International Summer School for Young Scientists "Information Technologies in Space Research" provided an extraordinary opportunity for scientists from Ukraine to know about the major scientific activities carried out by the international CEOS Working Group on Information Systems and Services (WGISS), the prospects of Ukraine integration in the research, and the current state-of-the-art of information technologies in space research in Europe and Ukraine.

The working language — English.

Organizers: National Space Agency of Ukraine (NSAU), National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (NASU), CEOS WGISS and Space Research Institute of NASU-NSAU.

  • Prof. O.P. Fedorov - Director, Scientific Programs Dept., NSAU
Members:
  • Dr. Paul Kopp, CNES, France
  • Prof. Ladislav Hluchy, Institute of Informatics, Slovak Academy of Sciences
  • Prof. V.M. Kuntsevich, Space Research Institute of NASU-NSAU
  • Prof. N.N. Kussul, Space Research Institute of NASU-NSAU
Organizing Committee:
  • Shelestov A.Yu., Chair, Ph.D., Space Research Institute of NASU-NSAU
  • Gusev S.S., National Space Facilities Control and Test Center
  • Rudakova A.I., Space Research Institute of NASU-NSAU
  • Kravchenko O.M., Space Research Institute of NASU-NSAU
  • Zhytomirska K.G., Space Research Institute of NASU-NSAU

Preliminary Programme:

  • Prof. O.P. Fedorov, National Space Agency of Ukraine, "Priority of space research in the context of information society development"
  • Dr. Ivan Petiteville, WGISS Chair, ESA, "WGISS: structure and main activities"
  • Prof. Ladislav Hluchy, Institute of Informatics, Slovak Academy of Sciences, "Project DEGREE: studies of possibility of using Grid-Technologies in Earth monitoring systems"
  • Prof. V.M. Kuntsevich, Space Research Institute of NASU-NSAU, "Control in conditions of uncertainty: results and prospects"
  • Prof. N.N. Kussul, Space Research Institute of NASU-NSAU, "Ukrainian activities in WGISS: main projects"
  • Prof. Yu.G. Tishenko, Institute of Radioengineering and Electronics of Russian Academy of Sciences, Russia, "Development of information systems in space branch"
  • Dr. A.Yu. Shelestov , Space Research Institute of NASU-NSAU, "Approaches and information technologies for satellite data processing"
  • Prof. E.A. Lupyan, Space Research Institute of Russian Academy of Sciences, "Development of satellite monitoring information systems"
  • Dr. V.P. Savorskiy, Institute of Radioengineering and Electronics, Russian Academy of Sciences, "Basic user queries and architecture of Information system for Satellite remote Sensing Data"

During the School, a demonstration of information technologies and systems being developed in the framework of WGISS and international projects has been provided.

It is worth mentioning that within the School, two round-table discussions had been held for the following topics:

1. Main results achieved so far and prospects of ESA Category-1 project "Wide Area Grid Testbed for Flood Monitoring Using Spaceborne SAR and Optical Data"
2. INTAS-CNES-NSAU project "Data Fusion Grid Infrastructure"

Interest of young scientists in subjects of Summer School, hands on discussion of their colleague's results, constructive proposals for the future cooperation, non-formal relations of participants give us an opportunity to consider that International Summer School for Young Scientists "Information Technologies in Space Research" had been successful and proves the necessity of its regular carrying out.
