Papers presented at the international symposium ESA Living Planet Symposium 2022

Once every three years, the European Space Agency holds a huge forum – ESA Living Planet Symposium. This year this great event took place in Bonn, Germany from May 23 to 27, 2022. Thanks to the cooperation with the JRC EC, Ukrainian representatives of the department had the opportunity to attend the symposium.

This symposium focuses on how Earth observation contributes to science and society, how Earth observation technology is changing, which also creates new opportunities for public-private interaction.

This year our works are presented at the poster sections of the Leaving Planet Symposium 2022 in the following areas:

Fusion of classification approaches for landfill detection in Ukraine
A. Shelestov, H. Yailymova, B. Yailymov, P. Mikava 

The authors proposed an algorithm based on neural networks and satellite data, which automates the monitoring of landfills in a remote area, as well as allows you to evaluate retrospective information and track their changes over time. This project won the EastCode2021 national innovation competition.

           
Monitoring of the SDG 2.4.1 and 15.3.1 indicators on the CREODIAS platform with using in-situ data

The authors proposed an algorithm for assessing indicators of sustainable development goals for the territory of Ukraine on the CREODIAS cloud platform. In connection with the hostilities, Ukrainian scientists were supported by international companies, including Cloudferro, which provided its computing resources on the CREODIAS cloud platform.

Crop Classification Synthetic Training Data Generation With Use Of Generative Adversarial Network

The authors presented a new method of synthetic generation of train data for the problem of crop classification on the basis of deep generative competitive network (GAN).

Artificial Intelligence models in solving Ill-posed Inverse problems of Remote Sensing GHG emission

The authors presented the method of using meteorological data and machine learning methods for forecasting air quality in Ukraine.

Earth observation data science programs in NTUU “KPI”

The authors presented the certificate program “Models and methods of intellectual analysis of heterogeneous data” of the Educational and Scientific Physical and Technical Institute of NTUU “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute” to create a dual program with Ukrainian universities.
