On the official website of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, the forecast for this year’s harvest was published, based on data collected by the researchers from the Department of Information Technologies and Systems of the Space Research Institute under NAS of Ukraine and State Space Agency of Ukraine in cooperation with the representatives of the Department of Mathematical Modeling and Data Analysis of the National Technical University of Ukraine «Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute».
Using images from the Earth remote sensing satellites Sentinel-2 and Planet, our scientists, together with their colleagues from the World Bank and the Joint Research Center (JRC), found a significant reduction in the area of early crops as a result of the war: for the country this means a loss of at least 20%.
The scientists presented the obtained results at the Donor Coordination Council Meeting on July 12, 2022. Denys Bashlyk, Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine for Digital Development, Digital Transformations and Digitalization, says: «Thanks to modern digital technologies, it is much easier to record the losses of the agricultural sector».
