Space Research Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the State Space Agency of Ukraine (NASU and SSAU) is a leading organization in the space exploration area of Ukraine. The Institute’s scientists have extensive experience in remote sensing data, geoinformation systems, machine and deep learning methods used in international and Ukrainian projects.
Agriculture, ecology, smart cities and the digital economy are the main areas of scientific activity of the SRI and the Space Information Technology and Systems Department. Our organization is a participant in the international ERA-Planet program, which aims to strengthen the European science sector in the land research area, and is the official coordinator of this program in Ukraine. Within the ERA-Planet, Space Research Institute participates in three projects:
- GEOEssential – the researching and monitoring of the environmental and climate change;
- SMURBS – the developing “smart city” technologies to monitor air quality, natural disasters and urban development;
- IGOSP – the researching of air and water pollution.
Amazon-GEO Grant enables to develop Methodology for SDGs indicators assessment project – cloud-based software for monitoring sustainable development goals in the areas of 2 – “Zero Hunger”, 11 – “Sustainable Cities and Communities”, 15 – “Life on Land”.
We are also a participant in the World Bank project “Supporting Land Transparency in Ukraine” (development and assistance in implementing public sector satellite agricultural monitoring technologies) as well as the UN project in the analysis and monitoring of peatlands and marshes area.
Another priority is to participate in international collaborations related to GEOSS (GEO-GLAM, JECAM, Disaster WG, AIP), CEOS, International Charter “Space and Major Disasters”, ICSU-WDS, UN-SPIDER.
The team of our institution is engaged in the implementation of scientific projects, cloud technologies and the use of satellite data, as well as educational and educational activities (master’s program at the inter-sectoral Kiev Academic University, training and workshops for children)
